Discussion Questions

  1. This Sunday, Sam talked about how one way we learn as a disciple is through imitation. Who has been a good role model of faith in your life? How did they impact your spiritual walk?
  2. We are all called to be lifelong learners as disciples of Christ. What does it mean to you that you are a disciple of Jesus?
  3. How does being in Christian community help your walk with God? What can we do to support each other well as brothers and sister in Christ?

Read Philippians 3:12-14 and Ephesians 4:22-24, then answer the following questions

  1. What does this passage tell me about God and about people?
  2. If I believe today's teaching is from God and that He loved me so much He sent Jesus to die for me, what is the appropriate way to respond in my everyday life?

This Sunday, Pastor Sam continued our series on SEE, talking about Equipping Disciples. He talked about how we as Christians learn and grow spiritually through imitation and inhabitation. We learn by imitating the model we see that Jesus set in Scripture, and also by imitating more mature believers and learning from them. Jesus set the example by making disciples who made disciples, and as Christians we are also called to grow in faith so that we can go out and make new disciples who follow Jesus.

Scripture

  • Ephesians 4:22-24: "Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

  • Philippians 3:12-14: "I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.

  • Colossians 2:6-7: And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

  • Mark 1:16-18: One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him.

  • John 17:1-4: After saying all these things, Jesus looked up to heaven and said, “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.

  • Romans 8:28-29: And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters

  • Galatians 5:22-23: But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things.
