This Sunday, Pastor Sam kicked off a new series that outlines our mission and new focus as a church, which is summarized by the acronym SEE:
- Share Life
- Equip Disciples
- Engage Community
This Sunday Sam talked about sharing life, and about how we can help those who don't know Jesus see who Jesus is for themselves. Our motive as Christians is the Great Commandment: To love God and love neighbor, while our method is the Great Commission - to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to obey everything Jesus commanded. Therefore, each of us are called to love our neighbor and to help them SEE Jesus, and every one of us is called to be disciple-makers wherever we go. So who are the neighbors, friends, family, or co-workers that God has placed in your life so that you can help them SEE Jesus?
Quote of the Week
"I want people to see Jesus so every conversation I'm looking for a connection... as we go about life we point people to Jesus, in the everyday conversations that we have about the one who's changed our life the one who's given us hope and Jesus has given us a mission as a church." - Sam
Scripture
- Mark 12:30-31: And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
- Matthew 28:18-20: Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
- John 3:13-15: No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the bronze snake on a pole in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 so that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life.
- John 1:35-39: The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!” When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus. Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?” “Come and see,” Jesus said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.
- Luke 19:10: For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost
- Numbers 21:4-8: Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor, taking the road to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. But the people grew impatient with the long journey, and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!” So the Lord sent poisonous snakes among the people, and many were bitten and died. Then the people came to Moses and cried out, “We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Pray that the Lord will take away the snakes.” So Moses prayed for the people. Then the Lord told him, “Make a replica of a poisonous snake and attach it to a pole. All who are bitten will live if they simply look at it!”
- John 12:32: And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself
- John 6:44: For none one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, and at the last day I will raise them up.
- Acts 2:42-47: All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper, and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity— all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
